Beer Pairing Dinner (Kitchen Collaboration) with Chef Steven Kwon of R&D

The next beer pairing dinner of our series, at Indie Alehouse, features guest Chef Steven Kwon of R&D Restaurant. Chef Kwon is teaming up with our chef, Todd Clarmo, to bring you a menu that will be quite unique to  Indie Alehouse. Showing everyone that good beer pairs with good food no matter what the style.

 Each Course will be paired with beer by Indie Alehouse, Some of which will be specially crafted for this dinner!

Chef de Cuisine, Steven Kwon

Chef Steven Kwon brings a worldly background, diverse restaurant experience and a passion for food to the table. After spending most of his childhood in the United Arab Emirates, Chef Kwon immigrated to Vancouver. While overseas attending the University of Korea, he realized his love for cooking and returned to Vancouver to join the Culinary Arts Program and to work in the thriving fine dining scene.

In 2001, immediately after graduating, Chef Kwon worked under Executive Chef Frank Dodd and Executive Sous Chef Jonathan Gushue at Bacchus Restaurant, Wedgewood Hotel. From 2002 to 2007, Chef Kwon worked under Executive Chef Don Letendre and Chef de Cuisine Lee Humphries at the Elixir Bar & Restaurant in the Opus Hotel, where he started as a commis and advanced to Sous Chef.

He spent his last year in Vancouver as a Sous Chef at Chambar Belgian Restaurant under Chef Nico Shurmans, before moving to Toronto to join Chef Lorenzo Losetos’ brigade at George Restaurant. From 2008 to 2015, Chef Kwon led the team at Oliver & Bonacini Café Grill, Bayview Village, applying his unique cultural influences and his vast fine dining experience.

Today, Chef Kwon drives the kitchen at R&D in Toronto’s Chinatown, crafting bold and modern dishes inspired by Canadian and Asian flavours.
